Clinical psychology (50min session time + admin, notes, and GP letters) is billed at $254.85. This is below the Australian Psychology Society recommended fee of $311.
50+ minute session Fee | Medicare Rebate | Gap fee (Out-of-pocket) |
$254.85 | $141.85 | $113 |
Sliding scale fees are available on application. These are partially reduced fees according to your financial situation.
NDIS sessions incur an additional $10 surcharge per session due to specific costs associated with offering services under NDIS. Thus, they are billed at $264.85. This is still well below the NDIS remote price limit of $341.91 for psychology.
If you are being referred under a GP’s mental health treatment plan, you may be entitled to a $141.85 rebate from Medicare, for a maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year.
This would leave a gap payment of $113 per session.
If you apply for sliding scale fees, your gap payment may be reduced partially. The exact reduction will depend on your financial situation, availability of sliding scale places, and will be determined collaboratively. Please see the table below for a guide:
Tier | Discount | Rate | Gap-fee after rebate | May be appropriate for: |
4 | 0 | $255.85 | $113 | People who are financially secure |
3 | 15% | $217.47 | $75.62 | People who who are financially stable, but have mitigating circumstances (health expenses, significant debt, unpaid work/childcare duties) |
2 | 22% | $199.56 | $57.71 | People who are not financially stable (e.g. cannot manage an unexpected expense). |
1 | 30% | 179.10 | $37.24 | Pensioners, students, healthcare card holders. |
If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible for other rebates. Please enquire directly with your insurer.
Unfortunately, I am not able to offer bulk-billing services.
My fees are set well below the Australian Psychological Society and Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. recommended rates ($311p/h and $315p/h) and the NDIS remote price limit ($341.91).
If you cannot afford a gap fee, please reach out to public, government-subsided services in your area. You can call the NSW Mental Health triage line on 1800 011 511, speak with your GP, or visit headtohealth.gov.au.
You do not need a referral if you plan to pay the full fee out of pocket.
You will need a referral if you would like to access sessions subsidised by Medicare.
If you intend to use private health insurance, please check with your specific insurer as to whether a referral is required.
To get a referral for psychological services covered by Medicare, you need to schedule a long appointment with your GP. It is important that you specify that the appointment is for a psychology referral at time of booking, as most GPs will not be able to complete a referral during the standard consult time.
During this appointment, the GP will ask you some questions about your mental health and may get you to complete a short questionnaire. If the GP determines that you would benefit from seeing a psychologist, they can provide you with a Mental Health Care Plan. This plan typically allows you to access at least six sessions with a psychologist per calendar year, with the possibility of a further four sessions after a review.
Paediatricians and psychiatrists are also able to complete referrals for psychology.
Assessments for ECEI or NDIS participants that are required to inform supports and are in line with client goals may be covered by the NDIS, and are billed hourly.
Private assessments vary greatly according to what is required, and range from $850 through to $2640. Detailed information on price estimates will be provided to you on enquiry.
If you cancel with over 24 hours notice, there is no cancellation fee.
For cancellations/re-schedules/no-shows within 24hrs of the appointment time, a 70% cancellation fee applies. Please note that Medicare does not provide rebates for cancellation fees.
Clients should know that cancellation fees are not a punishment. Rather, they are necessary in order to run a sustainable business. This is because, as a boutique service, there is no way to replace the income lost in that hour, whilst overheads such as professional training, registration fees, insurance, utilities, room rental, software licenses, etc. remain constant.
If you are unable to attend a face-to-face appointment, a telehealth or phone appointment can be offered in lieu of cancellation.
On the day of your first appointment, bring a copy of your referral (if you have one).
Your first appointment will involve an explanation of services and confidentiality. You may be asked to complete a service agreement or a short questionnaire if you have not already completed one.
The first session focuses on a clinical interview. That is: getting to know you, your history, and your symptoms. These questions will help us to better formulate your treatment plan. At the end of the session, we will usually discuss a treatment direction and some goals that we can formalise in subsequent sessions.
At the conclusion of each session, you will often be given “homework” – something to practice or reflect on until your next session. Lastly, payment for the session will be taken and the next session booked.
While we can all agree that you will get the most of your psychology sessions if you’re free from caring for kids; I understand that that isn’t always possible. Being a parent should not be a barrier to accessing quality mental health care. As such, we take the following measures to make our service as parent-friendly as possible!
- Infants are welcome in face-to-face sessions, and children can be accommodated on occasion dependent on your treatment needs and the circumstances (some noise-cancelling earphones and a good movie usually help!)
- You are welcome to feed your children, in any manner, during sessions.
- You can request that your telehealth session is broken up into two, 25-minute blocks, with a 10 minute break mid-session to help with care giving responsibilities.
- Sick kids happen… too often! To reduce the parent-tax, ALL clients (whether parents or not) are eligible to have a cancellation fee waived on a single occasion during extenuating circumstances. I can also provide a telehealth appointment as an alternative to face-to-face services.
- Weekend and evening appointments are available to accommodate parents busy schedules.
I recognise that neurodivergence is not a flaw that needs to be “fixed” through psychological treatment. However, neurodivergence can be a disabling experience for many people, and psychological therapy is one way to help support people to be able to play, live and work the way they want to.
I am committed to accommodating the preferences and needs of all my clients. Whether it’s communication preferences, sensory needs, or treatment modality – we can find ways to make sure therapy feels as safe and comfy for you as possible.
While I am trained in multiple modalities of evidence-based trauma therapies, trauma-informed service goes beyond the treatment. Healing from interpersonal trauma can occur within the bounds of a safe and professional relationship, where the client is empowered to make choices for and about their therapy, and treatment is undertaken WITH their therapist (not by their therapist!).
Many people who have experienced trauma have, sadly, also had negative experiences when disclosing their trauma. It’s natural and common to be reluctant to seek help again when this has happened. If you make an enquiry about trauma-informed services, we can discuss how we will work together to make therapy safe for you before treatment starts. And rest assured, you never have to talk about what happened unless you want to.
